Dear David Cameron,

30/11/15

Further to your November 2015 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta, implore all Commonwealth member states to decriminalise homosexuality & legislate equal rights for their LGBTI citizens, in accordance with the human rights principles of the Commonwealth Charter & the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

13/11/15

Further to your November 2015 UK meetings with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, implore him to review the Supreme Court of India's controversial decision to reinstate a 155-year-old British law that criminalises homosexuality.

11/11/15 PETITION STARTED

Prime Minister please implore Prime Minister Modi to decriminalise homosexuality in India.

In 1860, during the British rule of India, Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code was introduced criminalising homosexual acts. In 2009, nearly 150 years later, Section 377 was declared unconstitutional by the High Court of Delhi, however in 2013 that judgement was overturned by the Supreme Court of India who ruled that homosexuality to be a criminal offence.

Homophobia is prevalent in India and the LGBT+ population suffer widespread discrimination. The official LGBT+ population in India numbers 2.5 million, although this figure would undoubtedly be much higher if LGBT+ people were allowed to live their lives openly and without fear of discrimination.

All Commonwealth member states should decriminalise homosexuality and legislate equal rights for their LGBTI citizens.

10/11/15

At the GFEST 2015 visual arts exhibition, Subodh Rathod made an impassioned plea for the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reconsider Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code.
