Thousands want Sam Smith’s Bond theme replaced with Conchita Wurst

Thousands of people want Sam Smith’s Bond theme to be dropped – in favour of Conchita Wurst.

The out ‘Leave Your Lover’ artist was unveiled this month as the theme song artist for upcoming Bond film Spectre.

However, Smith’s track Writing’s On The Wall has had mixed reviews from critics and Bond fans alike.

An unlikely online movement has since grown up – urging for Eurovision diva Conchita Wurst to be handed the job instead, following the release of her new single.

The bearded Austrian drag queen released Bondeqsue track ‘Where Have All The Good Men Gone?’ last week, chronicling her pain at finding a decent lover.

Twitter users complained of Smith: “I usually like Bond movie songs but in the case of #Spectre it should be better performed by @ConchitaWurst”

Another wrote: “Why didn’t they get Conchita Wurst to do the new Bond theme?”

A petition (shamelessly started by PinkNews’ UK Editor Nick Duffy) has gathered steam online, with over 1,700 people backing Conchita for the job instead.

It says: “You know what would make a great Bond theme instead? Conchita Wurst’s new single.

“I mean, come on. You don’t need me to sell this to you – she’s a bearded Austrian drag queen who SCREAMS glam. It’s Shirley Bassey all over again!

“And just listen to the track! (THAT’S how you do grandiose orchestrations, Sam. You’d probably know if you’d spent more than 20 minutes on yours).

“So, dear world, let’s rise up: Conchita Wurst for Bond theme, 2015.”

One signer added: “I have really nothing against Sam Smith, in fact I like most of his songs but this new Bond theme is simply bland.

“Please let Conchita sing the next Bond song, she’s a diva in the best sense and has been a Shirley Bassey fan since childhood. What are you waiting for?”
